Founding Partner – Lighthouse Wealth Management
CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®, ELDER PLANNING COUNSELOR
INVESTMENT REPRESENTATIVE, CERTIFIED EXECUTOR ADVISOR
Dave is a huge believer in continuing education and is fully qualified with numerous licenses. In mid-99, he obtained his Certified Financial Planners (CFP) designation (this is like having a Masters Degree in personal, business and estate financial needs). By 2007, he had achieved his Elder Planning Counselor Designation (EPC) designation (meaning he has taken extensive courses on working with Elders – not only with their financial assets but Elders in all the physiological and psychological characteristics they have).
And, in early 2016, completed his “Certified Executor Advisor” designation, known as “CEA”. This additional knowledge will certainly supplement his professional CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and EPC (Elder Planning Counsellor) areas of expertise. Technology, taxation, complexity of assets, new family dynamics, sweeping new legislation and risk of personal litigation has created a perfect storm for today’s Executors. Thus, Dave opted to enter into this additional accreditation to further support our clientele here at Lighthouse and others as requested. His role will be to assist Executors (often those being asked to do it their first and perhaps only time) using a team-oriented approach. Consider that virtually every family in Canada will appoint at least one Executor – perhaps their most trusted decision-maker – someone who will take on one of the most challenging roles of their life, on short notice. Where will they turn for help? We are now feeling good that Executors can now turn to Dave and our firm for assistance. Some of the more important issues completed by Dave in his studies to obtain his CEA, included Wills; Funeral Arrangements; Gov’t benefits (for the deceased and their heirs); US Taxation for Canadians; Property Ownership Issues; Estate Distribution; Trusts, Canadian Taxation of Trusts & Estate and of course, Ethics.
Dave is 100+% Committed to his Clients but at the same time, freely giving his time in the training of new and younger Financial Security Advisors. He is a regular contributor to technical articles and presenter of numerous seminars.
Contributing back to the community has always been important to Dave. He can claim he has been a Rotarian (since 1994) & is a Past President (1997-98 and again in 2012-2013); he was a Past Assistant District Governor of Rotary’s District 7070 (2007-08). He has held the position of Secretary at both the Rotary Club of Brighton and the Rotary Club of Campbellford. Dave was also active in the Brighton & District Chamber of Commerce (1998-2003 and President in 2000-2002). In 2007, when the Friends of Presqu’ile Park needed help in fundraising for their Marsh Board Walk project, Dave through his associations with Lighthouse Wealth Management was able to obtain a substantial contribution from Freedom 55 Financial as a corporate sponsor. In 2011, Dave was highly instrumental in fundraising that resulted in the construction of a splash pad for the youngsters here in Brighton. In late 2012, a new association was formed to restore the local lighthouse and Dave was right there from the beginning as a Marketing Director for the Presqu’ile Point Lighthouse Preservation Society. No wonder, Dave was bestowed the honour of the “2015 Citizen of the Year”.
Dave has been married to his wife, Jean, since 1973. Not surprisingly, the entire family are huge 5 Pin Bowling fans and are avid summer campers often involving the two granddaughters that hold a special spot in Dave’s heart.
Today, as the Founder and Senior Managing Partner of Lighthouse Wealth Management, Dave is actively working with those interested in protecting and maximizing what they have worked hard to establish.
